The Iowa Central baseball team won 3 of 4 in their opening games for the 2018 season. Travelling to Enid, Oklahoma, the Tritons played two games each with MCC-Longview and the host school, Northern Oklahoma-Enid. A recap of each game is below.
Northern Oklahoma-Enid 12 Iowa Central 4
The Friday night opener was the lone loss for Iowa Central on the weekend. The Jets (11-2) scored five runs in the first, on four singles and a home run, and never looked back. Iowa Central did not help their cause, leaving eleven runners on base in the game. Dylan Gasner had three hits, including a home run for the Tritons and Nolan Monthei also homered. Max Steffens suffered the loss on the mound.
Iowa Central 18 MCC-Longview 10
The Tritons turned the tables on their opponent in the second game, scoring five runs of their own in the 1st inning, in route to an 18-10 win. Devin Porter and Alberto Ortiz paced the offense with three hits apiece, including a home run, and Nolan Monthei homered for the second time is as many games. Jacob Mohler went five innings and got the win on the mound for the Tritons.
Iowa Central 6 Northern Oklahoma-Enid 1
Iowa Central starter Foster Anshutz was terrific over five innings, allowing no earned runs and just two hits, while striking out seven to earn the win. Devin Porter continued his hot hitting with a double and a three-run home run. Albert Mora and Brock Reller also had RBI hits for the Triton offense.
Iowa Central 10 MCC-Longview 4
A frustrating first six innings for the Tritons gave way to a huge top of the 7th in the 10-4 win. Iowa Central sent thirteen hitters to the plate in the inning, scoring nine runs in the process. A three RBI single by Dylan Gasner and a bases clearing triple by Nolan Monthei provided the damage. Houston Hawkins got the win with 1.1 innings of relief.
