Tritons Win 3 of 4 in O’Fallon   

 

In double headers with Elgin Community College and Rend Lake Community College on Saturday, March 3rd and Sunday, March 4th, the Iowa Central baseball team left O'Fallon, Missouri's CarShield Stadium with wins in three of the four games. Recaps of each game are below.

Iowa Central 5                   Elgin 2

Triton starting pitcher Max Steffens cruised through six innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out five to earn the win. Rafael Melo closed the game out for his first save, striking out two in his inning of work. Andres Ortiz paced the Iowa Central offense with three hits, two runs scored, two stolen bases, and an RBI. Brock Reller also drove in two runs for the Tritons.

A 4th inning solo home run from Lyle Fini was all the offense that Iowa Central starter Jake Mohler and a pair of Triton relievers needed in Saturday's second game. Mohler was dominant over six innings, striking out nine and allowing just five hits. Alex Remy and David Bruinsma combined to get the final three outs for Iowa Central, with Bruinsma picking up his first save of the season.

In Sunday's opener, the Tritons built a nine run lead through three innings before holding on for an 11-9 victory. The Iowa Central offense collected eleven hits, which included two each from Andres and Alberto Ortiz and Brock Reller. Alberto Ortiz homered for the second time this season and drove in four. Foster Anshutz improved to 2-0 on the year with five strikeouts and no earned runs over his five innings on the mound. Rafael Melo got the final three outs of the game to collect his second save.

Rend Lake 4                        Iowa Central 2

A late rally fell short as Iowa Central left runners at second and third to end the game. The Tritons wasted a solid start from Jacob Goraczkowski who allowed just two earned runs in five innings. Brock Reller and Albert Mora combined for five hits to lead the Iowa Central offense.

 

Iowa Central is next in action on March 10th and 11th at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois.
