Iowa Central first baseman Devin Porter led a quartet of Triton baseball players on the 2018 All-Region Team, as he earned a spot as a first teamer.
Porter, who prepped at Saydel High School, enjoyed a great freshman campaign, leading the Tritons in nearly every offensive category. For the year, Porter hit .342, with 11 home runs, and 44 RBI. His .514 OBP ranks as the sixth best for a single season Iowa Central player all time. In conference games, Porter finished in the top ten in the ICCAC in doubles (2nd), triples (1st), RBI (8th), walks (2nd), hit by pitch (1st), OBP (5th), Slugging (7th), and extra base hits (1st).
Freshman Andres Ortiz was named to the 2nd Team of the All-Region squad. Ortiz was a catalyst atop the Triton batting order, finishing the year with a .327 batting average, four home runs, 32 RBI, and 29 stolen bases (7th all-time for a single season Iowa Central player). His five triples on the season rank fifth in Triton history. Within conference play, Ortiz was a top ten player in stolen bases (3rd), triples (7th), and hits (8th).
Sophomore pitchers Max Steffens and Rafael Melo were named All-Region Honorable Mention. Steffens' overall record was 5-3, 3-1 against conference foes. He struck out 59 in 68 overall innings and fired two complete games. Melo, the Triton's closer, saved six games on the season, with three in conference play, and struck out nearly eleven batters per nine innings.
