No. 12 Tritons welcome Coffeyville

Tough road setback for Iowa Central in Week 1

The 12th-ranked Iowa Central football team will look to keep the momentum generated by claiming the Kinney Cup going this Saturday when they host Coffeyville at Dodger Stadium.

Kickoff is set for noon.

The Tritons (1-1 overall) scored a 28-26 victory over then-No. 2 Iowa Western last weekend, winning the traveling trophy for the first time in a decade.

Demarcus Irons had his best game with Iowa Central, accounting for 202 total yards and three touchdowns. Kurt Taylor ran for 81 yards and Tanarious Achan had five catches for 74. Terrell Carey also had a touchdown catch.

Irons has 268 yards passing and 62 yards rushing this year, with Achan leading the receivers with 13 catches. That ties him for second in the nation.

Dijion Walls had two interceptions and Colin Swygman kicked in two field goals and two extra-points. Irons, Walls and Swygman were ICCAC Players of the Week.

Coffeyville (0-2) is coming off losses to Iowa Western and Fort Scott, who are both in the Top-20. They have won the last five meetings between these two schools, including a 47-32 victory last year in Kansas.
