Jeremy J. Smith enters his eighth year as the Director of Athletic Bands at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, IA, where he oversees the Triton Marching Band and Triton Wow Factor Pep Band, directs the Percussion Ensemble, and teaches applied lessons in percussion. In his time at Iowa Central, Mr. Smith has created the Percussion Ensemble, “Legion of Boom” Drum Line, the “Summer Jazz” travelling jazz combo, an annual instrumental music tour, "The Triton Jazz Festival", and started the Triton Marching Band in the fall of 2012. Under the direction of Mr. Smith this past fall, the Triton Marching Band performed at all home football games for Iowa Central, the Fort Dodge Senior High Homecoming parade, Aplington Parkersburg HS Friday night game, in exhibition at the NCI Band Invitational in Fort Dodge, in exhibition at the Parker (SD) Marching Festival, and run out performances to many area high schools. In December, they performed at the Graphic Edge Bowl, and in May performed for a Pella Tulip Time evening parade.
In addition to the Iowa Bandmasters Association, Mr. Smith is a member of Vic Firth’s Private Drum Teacher and Collegiate Educator Program and College Band Directors National Association as well as Hudson Music’s Teacher Integration Program. He is a graduate of Morningside College.
Smith is an twenty year member of the Karl L. King Municipal Band, of which he is also currently the personnel manager, plays with the East Side Jazz Team at various events, and has played with the Sioux City Municipal Band, Sioux City Symphony, and for many various big bands and churches. He maintains a small private studio, in addition to duties as percussion coach with the Fort Dodge Senior High All American Dodger Marching Band. He resides in Fort Dodge, IA with his wife Tara (middle school band director, Fort Dodge) and children Kayla and Karch.
