Iowa Central Men's Basketball continued its hot early start to the season by defeating Dakota County of Rosemount, MN by the score of 92-86. With the win, Iowa Central now improves to 6-1 overall. "It wasn't a pretty game, but we did enough things effectively to win. Give credit to Dakota County, they hung around and made some plays. But we also made some key plays as well," said Dennis Pilcher, head coach of Iowa Central. "The games before breaks are always the hardest and with a week off between games, Thanksgiving break here, this was a tough game. But I think games like this will only help us get better."
In a back and forth game in the first half, the Tritons were able to open a 12 point lead with under 6 minutes to go, but Dakota County cut into that lead by only being down 6 at half. "I thought once we got it to 12, we had a chance to put some distance between them and us. But we had some costly turnovers and defensive break downs that hurt us. We need to be more consistent on the defensive end," said Pilcher. The second half was much of the same as the first as both teams went back and forth. Dakota County did take a short lead at the 16 minute mark when they went up 57-55 but Iowa Central was able to answer it and regain the lead. Down the stretch, Tray Croft, Royshawn Webb and Dallas Bailey all hit key free throws to secure the win.
