The Iowa Central men's basketball team opened its 2018-2019 season with a 84-70 victory on Friday night over visiting Mt Mercy. This was the first time Iowa Central has ever played Mt Mercy. "It wasn't a pretty victory but we will take it. I thought we played really tight for most of the game. It showed in our 22 turnovers. We just have to continue to work and get better." Said Dennis Pilcher, head coach of Iowa Central.
A back and forth first half ended with an Iowa Central lead of 42-33 at half. Iowa Central would extend that lead to as many as 18 in the second half before the final margin. "We obviously need to clean up some things. Turnovers and guarding the dribble were not good. But we have a couple days to work on those things before we play again." Said Pilcher
