Title: Head Coach Men's Track & Field - Jumps/Hurdles

Nigel Bigbee enters his second full season as Head Track and Field Coach for the Tritons. In his first season at the helm, his men’s team were crowned NJCAA Indoor National Champions while his women’s team finished third at the 2019 NJCAA Outdoor National Championships.

Prior to his return he served a short stint at Conference USA powerhouse, Western Kentucky University. In his short time there, Nigel produced five Division I NCAA first round athletes in six events. He helped Dezmond Mobley increase his long jump personal best, by over a foot and a half, from 24’ 5.5” (7.44m) to 26’ 2.5” (7.99m). He also coached Ariel Terrell, in the 400m hurdles from a previous best of 1:00.23 to 57.67 and a top 20 time in the NCAA. Coach Bigbee also assisted Head Track and Field Coach, Erik Jenkins with two NCAA Championship qualifying relays: the men’s 4x100m, which included former Tritons Eli Minor and Kymari Gates; as well as the men’s 4x400m and Julius Morris in the open 200m.

As an assistant coach at Iowa Central Bigbee had a big impact on the program. He coached two new school records in both the men and women 4x100m relays, 40.35 and 45.20 respectively. In the individual events his athletes set eight new school records. Eli Minor 10.15/20.85, Jean Soutien 46.94, Destiny Carter 11.28/ 20”5 ¾ “(LJ), Altoneice Williams 13.65(100H), and Danielle Riggins 54.12(400m)/8.51(60mH).

Coach Bigbee started at Barton Community College in the fall of 2009 and his primary duties included sprints, hurdles and relays, but also coached the distance runners including cross country. In 2010, Bigbee and the Cougars won the NJCAA Indoor Championship.

Prior to Barton, Bigbee was a member of the University of Nebraska Track & Field coaching staff from 2007 to 2009 with primary duties being those of recruitment.

Bigbee graduated from Indiana State University, where he earned his degree in Business Management in 2007.  While at ISU he was team captain on the Sycamore track team earning All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in the 60-meter hurdles, 110-meter hurdles, and the 4X100 meter relay.
