OTTUMWA - The Iowa Central cross country team was in action here Saturday at the Indian Hills Invitational.
On the men's side, the Tritons picked up an individual silver and a team one.
Iowa Central was second in the team standings behind Iowa Western as Hunter Klimek placed second overall.
The women finished in fourth overall with Josie Stackis placing 13th. Shaunti Longfellow was 20th, Kyleen Irwin 22nd, Kirstyn Beaman 24th and Mia Blodgett 28th.
"We were resting some of our varsity athletes yet again," said Dee Brown, Iowa Central Director of Cross Country. "This was a great tune-up for our regional meet in two weeks because most of the Region XI teams were competing on the 2019 regional championship course.
"It was very windy during the women's race with gusts up to 30 mph, but luckily it died down a bit for men's race later that evening. Our athletes did exactly what we needed them to do: they competed. We weren't worried about times, even though a few still ran their personal bests. Most importantly they competed with athletes they will see in two weeks in Fort Dodge when it counts."
