Tritons go 3-1 again down in Fort Worth, Texas

Another southern trip, but this time to Fort Worth, Texas saw the Tritons go 3-1 against all Texas teams.  The Tritons left on Thursday, February 14th for the 12 hour trip.  They were able to stop off and practice for an ohur in Oklahoma City on the way down.

The temperature for the first day was around 76 degrees.  Game 1 was vs. Navarro CC.  The Tritons won 4-1 with Alex Boyce and Bre Tjebben combining on the 7 hitter.  Sophia Cave was the leading hitter getting 3 hits driving in 2 runs and scoring one. Navarro made it interesting in the 7thinning as they scored a run and had the bases loaded with 2 outs and their best hitter up to bat.  A first pitch fly out to 1st basemen Alexis Morrison ended the threat immediately.

Game 2 was against a 16-1 North Central Texas team.  The Tritons fell behind early but then knocked their ace out and took a 7-5 lead in the 4thinning.  North Central than took advantage of some walks and hits and ended up with a 15-7 victory.  Leading hitters for the Tritons in this game were Cheyenne Adersen and Bre Tjebben both getting 2 hits apiece.  Sophia Cave hit her first home run also.

Last game of the day was against Ranger CC.  The Tritons pounded out 17 hits in the 12-7 victory.  Kallie Malloy got the win on the mound going 5 1/3 innings and Bre Tjebben got the save in relief.  Leading hitters were Parker Mathews and Sophia Cave with 3 hits including another homerun by Cave.  Jenna Peschel and Gabi Bingham both added 2 hits.

A 43 degree change in temperature is what the Tritons woke up to the next day.  Being 33 degrees for the 9:00 am game, the director of the tournament cancelled all first games.  The tournament started at 11 am so only one game played and it was versus Hill CC.  The Tritons played a great game as they shutout Hill 7-0.  Kallie Malloy went 4 innings giving up only 2 hits and striking out 3.  Bre Small got the save as she allowed a leadoff single in the 5th inning and then retired the last 9 batters she faced.  Small recorded 2 strikeouts.  Leading hitters were Bingham, Tjebben, Mathews and Payton Andersen all recording 2 hits.  Tjebben added her team leading 3rd homerun to aid the cause.  What was supposed to be a 12 hour ride home ended up being a 18 hour 15 minute ride through some pretty bad weather back to Fort Dodge.  Next action is Sunday, February 24th at 1:00 pm vs. Kansas City Kansas CC.
