ESTHERVILLE — Postseason play begins here Wednesday night for the Iowa Central women as they take on Iowa Lakes.

Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in a Region XI Tournament quarterfinal.

The Tritons (17-12 overall) have found the right mix here down the stretch, winning their last five games. That includes road triumphs over Des Moines Area and Ellsworth, as they finished the season 6-6 away from Hodges Fieldhouse.

Brittany West leads an experienced group, averaging 14 points per game and shooting 46 percent from the field. Fellow sophomores Kira Ward, Shariah Smith and Avery Terwilliger are joined by redshirt freshman Justice Crooks.

Terwilliger, a former Humboldt standout, averages 11 points, five rebounds and three assists per game. Smith, a Fort Dodge Senior High graduate, checks in at 8.6 points, 4.5 boards and 3.3 assists, while Ward posts six points and four rebounds a night.

Iowa Lakes (21-9) swept the regular season matchups, winning 64-49 and 72-61. The Lakers are led by Shareece Smith, the sister of Shariah Smith.

Smith averages 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals per game. The freshman is shooting 42 percent from the field and 70 percent at the line.

In the wins over the Tritons, Smith scored 27 and 19 points. She went 32-for-39 from the free throw line over those games.

Samantha Hagedorn, a North Union graduate, averages just under 13 points a night and is shooting 32 percent from the 3-point line.

The winner moves into the semifinals to face either second-ranked North Iowa Area or Little Priest on Saturday.
