Defending national champs set for title defense

Last fall, the Iowa Central women's cross country program put together a season to remember.

The Tritons claimed the league title before marching straight through to a national title. Now comes the task of defending those crowns.

Sophomores Eleonora Curtabbi, Lilia Alvarez and Rosalie Fish are among the key pieces returning for Director of Cross Country Dee Brown and head coach Nick Ekel.

Iowa Central also scored the NJCAA Half Marathon national title a year ago.

Curtabbi was fifth at nationals as a freshman and Fish placed 33rd. They will also get to try and repeat on their home course when Fort Dodge hosts the NJCAA Championships on November 14.

Over each of the past 16 seasons, the Tritons have finished on top in the ICCAC. They will look to make it 17 in a row while competing in Div. I against Iowa Western, Indian Hills, Southwestern and Scott after the league split.

The Region XI Championship is set for November 1 in Fort Dodge.
