All of the past accomplishments are now just that - in the past.
The Iowa Central men's and women's cross country programs begin the 2020 season this Saturday at the Grand View Open.
Last year, the Triton women won the NJCAA national title after cruising to gold at regionals for the 16th consecutive season. Returning runners Eleonora Curtabbi, Lilia Alvarez and Rosalie Fish lead the team.
"Our student-athletes are so excited to be able to compete this Saturday in an Iowa Central uniform," head coach Nick Ekel said. "For our some of our first year students, this is their first race since their senior year of cross country. Our expectation is to use Saturday's meet to get reacquainted with competition and to work together throughout the race.
"Our goal as a program is to build on each meet as we work towards the Region XI and NJCAA Championships in November."
Iowa Central's men finished third at nationals after winning regionals for the seventh-straight time. They return Pur Biel, Noah Friske and Chris Levario.
"Our preseason camp was different than in the past due to COVID-19, however, we were able to have a hybrid team building camp during the first two weeks of August," Ekel said. "We have been pleased to see how the team is coming together in the first month. We are excited to watch this iteration of the Iowa Central cross country team as they establish their identity in the coming weeks."
The Tritons will compete over the next several weeks and are set to host nationals in Fort Dodge on November 14.
