ICCAC Athlete of the Week Honors for Fischer, Giesen
Chayton Fischer – Sophomore – Catcher
Chayton Fischer delivered when it mattered most, stepping up in a big way this past week to help Iowa Central claim the North Plains District title. Facing Region 13 Champion Dakota County (Minn.), Fischer made a major impact over two games, going 4-for-9 at bat with five RBI, a home run, and a walk. In a tight 9-7 game one victory, Fischer went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs, helping the Tritons gain the early series edge. In game two, Iowa Central rolled to a commanding win, and though Fischer only had one hit, he made it count — a clutch home run that brought in three more runs. Fischer's timely hitting and steady presence at the plate played a key role in Iowa Central's postseason success and their district championship win.
Carter Giesen – Freshman – Starting Pitcher
Carter Giesen came up big on the mound in game two of the North Plains District Championship, silencing the bats of Region 13 Champion Dakota County (Minn.) to help Iowa Central punch its ticket to the NJCAA World Series. Giesen was dominant through the first six innings, keeping the Blue Knights scoreless while facing 24 batters. He allowed just three hits and three walks, and struck out seven, never letting Dakota County gain any offensive momentum. His control and poise set the tone for the Tritons, who went on to secure a commanding 19-4 win and claim the district title. With the victory, Giesen and the Tritons now head to the NJCAA World Series, which begins May 24.
