Triton Baseball moves into final four with victory over Madison

For the third consecutive day Triton Baseball has faced elimination and came away with a victory. A 10-8 win over #5-seed Madison on Wednesday (5/27) advanced the Tritons to the semifinals of the NJCAA DII World Series.

Five scoreless innings from Jake Busson closed the victory that saw the Tritons trailing 8-4 after the top of the fifth inning. The Tritons would come back to score four in the bottom of the fifth, two in the sixth, and Busson would shut the Wolfpack down the rest of the way.

"The guys were persistent tonight," said Triton Head Coach, Eric Stein. "We stacked some at-bats together when we got behind and Jake held it down for us until we could score. Jake did a great job. That was a tough spot that we brought him into."

Triton ace, Ryan Ohm, started for the Tritons and gave up four runs on three hits with three strikeouts in his four innings of work. Busson (2-0) picked up the win and had three strikeouts in his five innings of work. Parker Otte and Sean Stewart also saw time on the mound.

"I was ready for it. I loved being back on the mound," said Busson on switching from shortstop to pitching mid-game. "I just let the guys behind me do the work. I put it in the zone so they could get us outs."

Offensively, eight Tritons found the hit column with Cooper Nicholson leading the way with three RBI, a double, and a stolen base. Isaiah Scott (2), Bryson Carpenter, Chayton Fischer, Spencer Pederson, Luke Bohonek, and Cade Sears all recorded RBI. The Tritons also drew ten walks on the night.

The win sets up a rematch with #1-seed Pasco-Hernando State on Thursday (5/9) afternoon at 3:00 PM. Having handed the Tritons their only loss in the World Series, the Tritons will have to defeat Pasco-Hernando twice to advance into the championship game.
