Jarrett: Graphic Edge Bowl filled with mixed emotions

Byron Jarrett enters his final game as a Triton with mixed emotions.

Jarrett will lead Iowa Central into Sunday's Graphic Edge Bowl against Monroe College in Cedar Falls. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. inside the UNI-Dome.

For the Des Moines Hoover graduate, this presents the last time he will put on the uniform and compete for Iowa Central and head coach Jesse Montalto.

"It is a very mixed emotional game for me," Jarrett said. "These coaches and this team have trusted me enough to lead them this season and I can't thank them enough. It will be very emotional at the end of the game because the opportunity Coach Montalto and Coach (Mike) Minikwu gave me last July have changed my life forever and I can't thank them enough."

Jarrett has taken the starting quarterback position and both passed and ran with it. He has thrown for 2,498 yards with 28 touchdowns and just five interceptions, completing over 62 percent of his passes for a quarterback rating of 163.6.

On the ground, Jarrett has racked up 534 yards and 12 touchdowns.

"I have grown in a lot of areas," Jarrett said. "My pocket posture and awareness has grown a lot and my passing percentage and touchdown-to-interception ratio is so much better.

Jarrett has scored at least two touchdowns in every game this season including seven in a win over Grand View. He has multiple passing TDs in eight games and over 300 yards in the air in three.

"I also feel like I have grown as a runner. I feel I pose a more serious threat to teams in the run game and it's just another factor to my game."

Iowa Central is currently 8-2 and ranked 10th in the country. They have won two in a row and are 14-5 over the past two seasons.

"It would mean so much to not just as a team, but the school (to win Sunday)," Jarrett said. "This school hasn't had a nine-win team in a lot of years and to have that opportunity is special, especially playing against a very good, undefeated team."
