CRESTON - Freshman PJ Ngambi scored a career-high 27 points but it was not enough to spark the 14th-ranked Iowa Central men to a win on the road here Saturday.
The Tritons suffered their first loss, falling to Southwestern, 95-89.
Ngambi knocked down 10 of 17 shots including three 3-pointers to lead Iowa Central (3-1 overall, 3-1 in ICCAC). He also had four assists and four rebounds, with 18 of his points coming in the opening 20 minutes.
Iowa Central shot nearly 48 percent from the field and buried a dozen triples. The Tritons had just five turnovers, and none in the second half.
For the Spartans (2-2, 2-2), Qushawn Wells had 21 points and Donzell Johnson 17.
Up next for Iowa Central will be a date with Des Moines Area on Wednesday inside Hodges Fieldhouse.
