Ngambi's career-high not enough for Tritons

CRESTON - Freshman PJ Ngambi scored a career-high 27 points but it was not enough to spark the 14th-ranked Iowa Central men to a win on the road here Saturday.

The Tritons suffered their first loss, falling to Southwestern, 95-89.

Ngambi knocked down 10 of 17 shots including three 3-pointers to lead Iowa Central (3-1 overall, 3-1 in ICCAC). He also had four assists and four rebounds, with 18 of his points coming in the opening 20 minutes.

Javonte Keck added 23 points with six rebounds and three blocked shots while Jordan Majeed had 19 points, five boards and three steals. Jaxon Smith chipped in 11 points off the bench.

Iowa Central shot nearly 48 percent from the field and buried a dozen triples. The Tritons had just five turnovers, and none in the second half.

For the Spartans (2-2, 2-2), Qushawn Wells had 21 points and Donzell Johnson 17.

Up next for Iowa Central will be a date with Des Moines Area on Wednesday inside Hodges Fieldhouse.
