Ready to build on the many successes of their 2024-25 seasons, the Triton Men's and Women's golf teams picked up right where they left off with titles at the "War in the Moor" hosted by Southwestern Community College at the Crestmoor Golf Course in Creston, IA.

 

"We had a great day in Creston," said Triton Head Coach, Kris Graewin. "We were able to take both the men's and women's team titles and land five athletes on the All-Tournament teams."

 

The Triton women's team would run away with the title, winning by 34 strokes with a 45-over, 333. Iowa Lakes finished 2nd with a 79-over, 367. All five Tritons finished in the top-10, with Braxtyn Dencklau leading the way with two birdies on her way to a 10-over, 82 and the individual tournament title. Syeda Laiba Shah took runner-up honors carding an 83. Azul Orantes Guzman (84) and Victoria Verstichel (84) would finish tied for third and Okira Quintero (85) finished 6th. 

 

On the Men's side, it would come down to a tiebreaker with Southwestern. With both teams shooting a +3, 291, the non-counting score would be the difference. Francis Lockwood paced the Tritons with four birdies in his round of 1-under, 71 to finish third. Axel Haglund (72) finished sixth, four shots back and Peyton Walker (73) finished tied for tenth for top-10 finishes. Filip Jarheden (17th) and Logan Fogarty (T33) would round out scoring for the Tritons. 

 

Dencklau, Laiba Shah, Orantas, Verstichel, and Lockwood were all named to the All-Tournament team.

 

"It was really cool to see how the ladies were nervous to start and watch them fight through it all and put together some solid scores. Each of them had a couple of swings they would like back, but overall it was a great day," said Graewin. "For our men, it came down to the fifth player as our tiebreaker. Getting some new guys tournament experience and getting the team victory accomplished all our goals for the day."

 

Up next for the Tritons is the Iowa Central Fall Kickoff on Monday, September 8th at the Fort Dodge Country Club - their only home event of the fall. Start time is 10:00 AM.
