Dave Evans begins his first season with the Tritons and fourth year coaching in the NJCAA. Prior to his move to Iowa, Evans spent three seasons coaching the throwing events at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, NM.
While at NMJC, Evans coached eight Top-10 NJCAA marks in the throws, NJCAA National record holder in the javelin, Anisha Gibbons, as well as 13 NJCAA National Champions and 56 NJCAA All-Americans. The indoor and outdoor, men’s and women’s track and field teams earned five NJCAA Titles, three national runners-up and two third place team finishes during his stay.
Prior to his stint at NMJC, Evans coached football, wrestling, track, and baseball throughout the state of Colorado. His stops include Columbine, Heritage and Littleton high schools. As a track and field assistant, he assisted in coaching the throws/sprints/jumps/relays to numerous state championships along with countless athletes who finished in the top 9 (All-State) on the podium. Evans has coached State Champions in football and wrestling as well.
Evans personally coached the school record holders in shot put and discus at Columbine and Heritage High. He has 25 seasons of coaching experience in total.
Evans is originally from Lyons, Kansas. He ran one year of track at Barton County Community College before transferring to Hutchinson Community College. Evans graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2000 with a B.S. in Health and Human Performance.
Evans was an All-Conference RMAC Javelin Thrower for Coach Jim Krob at Fort Hays State University. He also had the pleasure of training under Randy Cole, Pat Becher, and Dennis Weber. Other coaches of significant influence to Evans include Kevin Young, Chad Koepke, Ray Barron and Sheri Rossing.
Evans is a Level I USATF certified coach. His duties with the Tritons will include academic advising, recruiting, operations and coaching with various event groups. Evans’ other duties at Iowa Central will include serving as a housing coordinator on campus.
