Phone: 515-227-3477

Simon Stewart joined the Iowa Central Triton Track and Field coaching staff in July 2025, bringing over two decades of elite-level experience in throwing and strength and conditioning to Fort Dodge. A native of the United States and a four-time NCAA All-American in the shot put and weight throw at the University of Idaho, Stewart has built a distinguished international coaching career working with Olympic and Paralympic athletes across multiple sports.

After moving to Denmark in 2004 to pursue a professional shot put career, Stewart coached at the national level from 2007 to 2025. He has guided 41 Danish Olympians and Paralympians across the sports of track and field, sailing, archery, and boxing, earning a combined total of 1 Olympic gold, 1 Paralympic gold, 2 Olympic silver, and 3 Olympic bronze medals. As the Danish National Throwing Coach from 2007-2009, Stewart coached both the men’s and women’s national record holders in the shot put, including Joachim Olsen, who earned a European Indoor medal and set a national record of 21.61m under Stewart's guidance.

He has coached 23 Danish national champions and mentored medalists at every level—from youth to international podiums. Stewart also led throwing development at the renowned Aarhus 1900 Track & Field Club and also served as the National Para Athlete throws coach (2011-2016), producing multiple world records and a Paralympic gold medal.

Throughout his career, Stewart has been guided by some of the sport’s most respected coaches. He was coached by Tim Taylor at the University of Idaho, who led him to four All-American honors in the shot put and 35lb weight throw. As a professional athlete, he trained under Vésteinn Hafsteinsson who coached him to a new shot put personal record (19.78m) and to the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials. In preparation for coaching Jackie Christensen at the 2012 Paralympics, Stewart refined his coaching style under three-time World Champion John Godina, whose influence shaped his high-performance coaching philosophy.

In 2019, Stewart was named the Danish Sailing Coach of the Year, and in 2024, he was a top-three finalist for Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year by the International Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society.

His coaching philosophy emphasizes highly effective goal setting, systematic development, mastering fundamentals, learning through competition, and creating a positive training culture guided by the values of teamwork, passion, and quality. He holds certifications from USATF (Level 2), USA Weightlifting, and NCSF as a Master Trainer and Strength Coach.

Stewart earned his B.S. in Physical Education from the University of Idaho and his M.Sc. in Sports Science from Aarhus University in Denmark.

Coach Stewart lives in Fort Dodge with wife, Signe, and they have two children. Their move to Iowa reflects a shared commitment to community, family, and continuing his passion for developing student-athletes on and off the field.
