HICKORY, N.C. - ICCAC rivals Iowa Central and Kirkwood will square off in the consolation round at the NJCAA Div. II Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday.
Tip is set for 3 p.m.
Each team suffered a tough loss in the quarterfinals on Thursday, as the Tritons dropped a 63-60 decision to Johnson County. Carley West scored 22 points and Jordan Engbrecht 18 to lead Iowa Central, who made a fourth-quarter rally by outscoring the Cavaliers 22-12 in the final 10 minutes.
Kirkwood was stunned by Illinois Central, who made the tournament as a replacement team after being ranked in the Top-10 during the regular season. The Eagles were outscored 10-2 in the second and forced to play from behind, shooting just 1-for-22 from the 3-point line.
During the regular season, Kirkwood swept the two games, winning 79-36 on its home court and 68-59 in Fort Dodge earlier this month.
The winner between Iowa Central and Kirkwood plays USC Salkehatchie on Saturday at 1 p.m. for fifth place. The loser is eliminated from the tournament.
