Tritons Win Two at the KCKCC Classic

Led by strong defensive play, the Triton Women picked up two important road wins at the KCKCC Classis in Kansas City, MO to move to 3-0 on the season.

The Tritons matched up with Metropolitan on Friday (11-8) and held them to 16 first half points in a 74-43 victory. Olivia Miller scored 19 to lead the way for the Tritons offensively with Lainey Maehl adding 11. Catherine Clemente brought down nine rebounds and Leela Jones and Madisen Fay each had five assists. As a team the Tritons forced 28 turnovers and had 19 steals.

Triton Head Coach, Sabah Dickerson, was happy with the first of their back-to-back games, "Overall, it was a good game for us. Last season, we only shot around 28% in this classic on the first day. Today, we connected on 44% of our shots. Road games have a different set of challenges and it was great to see our team come out with energy. Defensively, our team limited scoring looks from Metropolitan and we held them to 16 first half points. Olivia shot the ball very well, she was 5-10 from outside. We also outrebounded Metro which was huge to limit second chance points."

On Saturday (9/9), Ashlin Jacobsen scored 14 on 5-of-10 shooting and Hannah Bogdonovich added ten to lead the Tritons to a 57-43 win over Haskell. Kiara Baptiste recorded 10 rebounds and 7 points. Kayla Johns-McGarity had 7 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Defensively, the Tritons forced 22 turnovers and converted them into 25 points.

Coach Dickerson was proud of their second day effort, "Road games are always tough, especially on back to back days. We started pretty flat and found ourselves behind early. We regrouped and found a good rotation that was aggressive in attacking and forcing turnovers. We need depth and consistency as we move closer to Region 11 play."

The Tritons are back in home action on Wednesday (11/13) at Hodges vs. Central-Columbus. Tipoff is 5:00 PM.
