Three Tritons Named ICCAC Athletes of the Week
Ashlin Jacobsen – Iowa Central – Sophomore – Guard
Ashlin Jacobsen came to play when the Tritons needed her most. She scored 35 points across the entire week but made her bread and butter against RV Iowa Lakes with a home regional tournament game on the line. She scored 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting while the Tritons took the win 68-59. She came out on fire to start the game, scoring 13 points and not missing a single shot in the opening quarter. It was the second-most points she's scored in a game this season and brings her to 10.3 PPG. Jacobsen and the Tritons will take on No. 12 NIACC to end an impressive regular season.
Taha Ouchene – Iowa Central – Sophomore – 600 Meters, 800 Meters, 4x800 Meters
Taha Ouchene took home three first-place medals this past week at the Region 11 Championship. Most impressive of the three was his 600-Meter performance with a time of 1:19.83, converted to 1:18.65 due to an oversized track. This time set a meet record and put Ouchene in the top 10 this season. In the 800 Meters, Ouchene won in 1:59.44 before competing with his teammates in the 4x800 Meter Relay and winning his third event. After a great regional performance, Ouchene will now move on to compete at the Indoor Track and Field National Championship.
Abbi Hutchinson – Iowa Central – Sophomore – 3,000 Meters, Mile, 5,000 Meters, Pole Vault
En route to a Region 11 Championship for Iowa Central, Abbi Hutchinson scored 30 points for the Tritons while claiming four podium finishes. One of her top performances at the Region 11 Championship was a first-place finish in the 3,000 Meters with a time of 10:26.85. Hutchinson ran a 5:03.74 in the mile to earn second place and set the second-fastest mile time in meet history. Then, in the 5,000 Meter and Pole Vault events, Hutchinson took home third place with a time of 18:52.60 and a vault of 2.00 meters. Iowa Central won the meet by just 4.5 points.
