Triton Women's Basketball Lock In #4 Seed For Postseason Play
After a remarkable turnaround from a seven-win season last year, Triton Women's Basketball finished their regular season with a 22-8 record and are locked in as the #4 seed for the upcoming Region 11 Tournament.
The Tritons head into postseason play as the #4 seed and host DMACC on Saturday (2/28) at Hodges Fieldhouse. The Tritons split with DMACC in their regular season meetings, falling 68-35 in Boone and winning 51-44 at Hodges.
"We're incredibly proud of this group. In year one, having players who were ready to raise the standard and willing to trust and buy-in to our staff made a huge impact," said first-year Triton Head Coach, Graham McFall. "This group has put in the work to earn this opportunity. They've done a great job staying steady through the highs and battling through adversity when it's come our way. Their approach hasn't changed and that consistency is a big reason we're in this position."
Leading the way for the Tritons is freshman, Trista Ohlmeier, whose name is all over the conference leaderboard. 6th in points per game (13.9), 2nd in rebounds per game (10.5), 5th in field goal pct. (48.8), and 3rd in blocks (54). Shakani Murray leads the Tritons in assists with 111, 4th in the conference. Defensively as a team, the Tritons have been among the national leaders in points per game allowed all year at just 53.7 ppg.
"This group has been a pleasure to coach, great teammates to one another, and exactly the kind of student-athletes you want representing your program, your campus, and your community," said McFall. "We're excited to host postseason basketball at home on Saturday as we compete for a Region 11 Championship."
Tip for Saturday afternoon's semi-final matchup is 1:00 PM. The winner advances to the championship game of the Region 11-A Tournament on Monday (3/2) at the higher-seed for a bid to the NJCAA National Tournament.
