COUNCIL BLUFFS - A ranked battle between ICCAC contenders came down to the final match here Thursday night with fourth-ranked Iowa Western topping No. 6 Iowa Central, 21-19.
The Tritons won five of nine matches wrestled on the night, but had to forfeit at 149 pounds to the Reivers.
With the dual hanging in the balance, heavyweight Jorden Pryor put Dillyn Miller on his back in overtime but was unable to secure the fall.
"It was a really close dual," Iowa Central head coach Luke Moffitt said. "We didn't do ourselves any favors spotting them six points, but we had some big wins. We'll get back to work and continue to improve."
Aidan Harris, Andrew Gamble, Keaton Geerts and Jose Rodriguez joined Pryor with wins.
"We started to move guys around and really got rolling there at 165," Moffitt said. "Andrew picked up a big victory and Geerts got a quick win. But the match of the night was at 184.
"We bumped Jose up to wrestle the No. 1 ranked kid (Josh McFarland) and he scored four near-fall points in the last five seconds to pull the upset. That was the definition of wrestling to the last second."
Bret Minor, Nolan Miller-Johnston and Trevion Sample dropped close matches.
The Tritons wrestle at home for the first time on Wednesday against Indian Hills.
