More honors continue to come in for the Iowa Central track and field program as Victoria Adu has been named the USTFCCCA National NJCAA Women's Athlete of the Week for a second time.
Adu, a freshman from Berlin, Germany, claimed top honors in the weight throw at the Region VI/KJCCC Invitational with a toss of 19.61m (64-4). That is the third-best mark in the event in NJCAA history.
"It is a really great honor for me," Adu said. "It shows that hard work gets rewarded and I couldn't be happier with my season. I developed myself in weight throw more than I expected and more than I wished for."
The throw ranks sixth-best in NJCAA history and is the second-best in Triton program history. Adu won the event title by almost 12 feet over the runner-up.
"We are so proud of Victoria and what she has accomplished in her first two collegiate meets," said Iowa Central head coach Jordan Burkholder, who also works with the throwers. "She has worked very hard and has had an incredible start to her career as a Triton."
Iowa Central returns to action this weekend when they compete at the Waldorf Warrick Invitational in Humboldt.
National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week to eight collegiate indoor track & field athletes, when applicable (male and female for each of the three NCAA divisions and the NJCAA).
