ICCAC Athlete of the Week Honors for Four Tritons

Unitee Brown – Iowa Central – Sophomore – Shot Put, Discus, Hammer Throw
Iowa Central thrower Unitee Brown scored 23 points for the Tritons at the Region 11 Championships this past week and became a region champion in two throwing events. In the Discus, Brown hit a mark of 44.85 meters, setting a personal best to be crowned the region champion. In the Shot Put, Brown threw 13.81 meters, earning her second region championship of the outdoor season. Brown also threw in the Hammer Throw and recorded a personal-best mark of 37.35 meters. Her regional title in the Discus qualified her for nationals, passing the NJCAA qualification mark.

Chadrak Belinda Bula Bula – Iowa Central – Sophomore – 800 Meters, 4x800 Meter Relay, 4x400 Meter Relay, 4x100 Meter Relay
Iowa Central's Chadrak Belinda Bula Bula is named Athlete of the Week after breaking a Region 11 meet record and recording three event wins. Setting a personal best in the 800 Meters, Bula Bula ran a time of 2:13.15 to be named the champion. In addition, Bula Bula ran in all three of the Tritons' relay squads, recording wins in the 4x400 Relay and 4x800 Relay, with a personal best being set in the 4x800. Her 800-meter time is the sixth-best in the NJCAA this season and easily meets the qualification standard.

Soufyane Laaziz – Iowa Central – Sophomore – 800 Meters, 4x800 Meter Relay
Iowa Central's Soufyane Laaziz delivered a historic performance at the Region 11 Championships, claiming titles in both the 800 Meters and the 4x800 Relay. The sophomore clocked a 1:47.71 in the 800 Meters to capture the regional crown, while also helping Iowa Central post a 7:42.62 in the 4x800 Relay. Both marks set new Region 11 records, adding to an already impressive championship weekend. Laaziz's 800-meter performance also broke the Iowa Central school record and now ranks fourth all-time in program history, further cementing his place among the Tritons' top middle-distance runners.

Ben Jones – Iowa Central – Sophomore – Catcher
Iowa Central catcher Ben Jones blistered the baseball all over the ballpark for the Tritons this past week. Jones went 10-for-13 (.769) with four home runs, two doubles, 15 RBIs, eight runs, three walks and a stolen base. His offensive outburst led to four Iowa Central wins and 79 total runs in those games. Jones has been a staple in the Iowa Central lineup with a .396 batting average, 12 home runs, 42 RBIs and an .833 slugging percentage. He has helped the Tritons to a 43-9 record and a real chance at an NJCAA National Championship.
