WATERLOO - The top-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team was pushed to their limits here Wednesday night against No. 9 Hawkeye.
But in the end, the Tritons found a way to survive, besting the RedTails in four. Scores were 25-19, 18-25, 29-27 and 29-27.
Iowa Central (16-0 overall, 3-0 in ICCAC) battled back in the fourth to end the match, overcoming a Hawkeye lead late in the set. The Tritons had a match-high 18 kills during the final set.
"I'm really proud of how our team dug deep," Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn said. "We made a few on-the-fly adjustments and found ways to win. This match definitely made us better and I'm happy we came out on top."
Brooke Dobson led the way with 15 kills. Angel Baylark added 14, Jori Hajek 12, Bailey Dugan eight and Haley Alharithy five. Alesha Johnson recorded 48 assists and 13 digs, Dugan had 34 digs, Baylyn Johnson 31 and Bria Sandifer 21.
Baylark had five block assists as Iowa Central recorded 16 total blocks on the night.
Hawkeye (11-4, 2-1) had its four-match win streak come to an end.
Next up for the Tritons will be four matches Friday and Saturday at the North Dakota State College of Science Tournament in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Iowa Central meets Central Lakes-Brainerd and Bismarck State on Friday before playing Dakota County and Jamestown JV Saturday.
