MASON CITY - The top-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team continued their winning ways with two more sweeps here Friday night at the North Iowa Area Tournament.

The Tritons took care of Grand View JV and the host Trojans in straight sets, improving to 23-0 on the year.

Angel Baylark led a balanced attack in the match with the Vikings, recording nine kills. Jalyn Simon had six and Jori Hajek five. Katilyn Steffes, Haley Alharithy and Brooke Dobson each recorded three.

Alesha Johnson picked up 28 assists and 15 digs, while Steffes, Baylyn Johnson and Hajek had 12 digs. Baylark had five block assists and Alharithy four.

"It was a nice night to stay a little closer to home and get in a couple matches," Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn said. "We were able to use a couple different combinations and work on some specific areas of focus.

"Our serving and back-row defense continue to make us a tough team to score on, and those were both strengths for us. Angel and Haley both did a great job of being efficient on offense, and Alesha did a great job of putting them into some good situations."

Horn also credited the players who came in off the bench, adding "they did some really nice things for us."

It was much of the same in the match with NIACC, as Steffes scored nine kills, Baylark eight, Dobson seven and Alharithy six. Alesha Johnson recorded 34 assists while Baylyn Johnson had 18 digs and Hajek 12.

Hajek also had three aces.

Iowa Central heads to Southwestern on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match.
