Tritons chase unbeaten conference season

MASON CITY - The second-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team can secure a fourth consecutive ICCAC Div. II title here Wednesday night with a win over North Iowa Area.

Match time is set for 7 p.m.

The Tritons (37-1 overall, 8-0 in league) are 32-1 against fellow conference Div. II opponents in the past three years and are 92-11 overall during that time. They finished a program-best third at nationals in the spring and were ranked No. 1 in the country for several weeks earlier this fall.

Katilyn Steffes leads the team with 399 kills, averaging over four per set. Brooke Dobson has 308, Angel Baylark 298, Jori Hajek 259 and Haley Alharithy 239. Alesha Johnson, the reigning conference player of the year, has 1,347 assists, 302 digs, 66 total blocks and 54 aces. 

Baylark has 139 blocks, Alharithy 136 and Dobson 95. 

Iowa Central owns two wins already this season over the Trojans, besting them in a pair of tournaments.

NIACC (15-23, 1-7) has lost six in a row and are just 3-9 this month. They are led by Grace Tobin, as the sophomore has 614 kills on the year. Halsie Keltner has 213, Kyla Moore 205 and Samantha Coron 715 assists. 

The Region XI Tournament will begin this Saturday with the Tritons hosting inside Hodges Fieldhouse. Four teams will comprise the Region XI-A bracket with four more the Region XI-B tourney.
