Ten Consecutive Wins For Triton Volleyball
Triton Volleyball Head Coach, Sara Horn, knew opening the season with four matches against teams that will be ranked nationally would be tough, but also beneficial to the long-term success of her Tritons.
"We played four teams that are ranked #4, #7, #8, and #19 nationally and it was a great eye opener for some our players," said Horn. "These matches show us how high of a level we have to maintain to be ranked in the top-10 ourselves."
Following those first four losses, the #10 ranked Tritons (10-4) have put together ten consecutive wins. They picked up their first conference win of the season on August 27th with a 3-set victory over Iowa Lakes and have followed with conference wins over Ellsworth, Northeast, and Hawkeye.
"It has been a lot of fun to see the improvements from week to week," said Horn. "The players have been working really hard to improve the areas of our game that we thought we struggled in during our open weekend tournament."
They also hosted the Iowa Central Invitational at Hodges Fieldhouse and went 4-0 with wins over Seminole State, Mesa, Rochester Tech, and Madison.
"It's always fun hosting high level teams and getting to watch great volleyball," said Horn on the Iowa Central Invitational. "To go 4-0 while playing a couple of ranked teams is a testament to our leadership and mental toughness. Three of our matches went 5-sets and the players had to fight through some tiredness and dig deep."
Leading the way for the Tritons is Tayla Sampson, who leads the ICCAC in kills (246) and kills per set (4.39). Anabel Seaman leads the conference in assists per set (9.38) and Addi Hindt is tied for second in blocks per set (.94).
"We're on a 10-match win streak and we're proud of how hard we have been working. Particularly after the opening weekend," said Horn. Our captains, Talya (Sampson), Shirley (Monaghan), Dena (Robb), and Anabel (Seaman) are doing a great job, not just statistically, but also stepping up their leadership to move us in the right direction for where we want to be in November."
Up next for the Tritons is a conference matchup with Central Community College (NE) on Wednesday (9/17) in Hodges Fieldhouse. Start time is 7:00 PM.
