ICCAC Athlete of the Week Honors for Three Tritons
Abbi Hutchinson – Iowa Central – Sophomore
Abbi Hutchinson of Iowa Central was the top women's junior college finisher at the Cyclone Preview. Competing against Division I programs such as Iowa State, Northern Iowa, and Drake, Hutchinson completed the 5K in an impressive 18:29.3 to finish 20th in the 40-runner field. She will be back in action at the Hawkeye Invitational on Sept. 5 in Iowa City.
Soufyane Laaziz – Iowa Central – Freshman
Soufyane Laaziz turned in a strong performance at the Iowa State Cyclone Preview in Ames. Laaziz was the top men's junior college finisher in the 6K race, running a personal-best 18:14.3 to take eighth place. He got his freshman year off to an impressive start and looks to be a valuable addition to an already strong Iowa Central squad. Laaziz will compete again on Sept. 5 in Iowa City at the Hawkeye Invitational.
Jaden Turner – Iowa Central – Sophomore – Special Teams
Jaden Turner made a big special teams play in a 77-0 blowout win over Central Lakes–Brainerd. After a stop by the Tritons' defense, the Raiders lined up to punt deep in their own territory. On the punt, the Tritons broke through the line and blocked the kick, with Turner in the right spot to scoop it up and return it into the end zone for a touchdown. It was a strong start to the season for Turner as a reliable special teams contributor.
